Pierhand privacy policy

Pierhand ("we") makes the Pierhand app for Windows and runs this website. Contact: support@pierhand.me

The short version

Pierhand works on your own computer with your own iPhone or iPad. What it reads from your device stays on your computer. We don't run a server that your data passes through, and neither the app nor this website contains advertising, analytics or tracking.

What stays on your computer

Everything Pierhand reads from your device: backups, photos, videos, files, contacts, messages, the list of installed apps, screenshots, diagnostics and logs. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.

Pierhand saves these in folders on your computer, listed in the app under Settings, "Where things are saved". Backups are not encrypted, so anyone who can use your Windows account can read them.

The app also keeps, on your computer only: your settings, recently used map locations, a cache of map images, and log files used to diagnose problems. Log files older than 30 days are deleted automatically. Your license key is stored on your computer in a form only your Windows account can read.

What the app sends over the internet

To our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy. When you enter, re-check or remove a license key, Pierhand sends that key and the name of your computer to Lemon Squeezy, so the key can be confirmed and you can see which computers are using it. Lemon Squeezy sends back whether the key is good, what was bought, and the email address the purchase was made with. The app re-checks the key about once a day.

When you buy Pierhand, the purchase is made on Lemon Squeezy's website, not in Pierhand. They are the seller of record and handle your payment details; we never see your card number. Their privacy policy: https://www.lemonsqueezy.com/privacy

To the map providers. The street and dark maps come from OpenStreetMap, the satellite view comes from Esri, and place search uses OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service. When you use the map, Pierhand downloads map images for the area you are looking at, and sends any place name you type into the search box. As with any website, these providers see your IP address. Their privacy policies: https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy and https://www.esri.com/en-us/privacy/overview

To get and use the free helper tool, pymobiledevice3. On iOS 17 and newer, location simulation, screenshots and the app list use a free tool called pymobiledevice3. If you press "Install pymobiledevice3", it is downloaded from the Python Package Index (pypi.org). The first time it is used with a device, it downloads the developer support files it needs from the internet and asks Apple's servers to approve them for that device. That sends identifiers of your device to Apple, the same as Apple's own developer tools do.

Nothing else is sent. In particular, the location you choose to simulate is sent only to your own device over the cable.

This website

This website uses no cookies, analytics or trackers, and its fonts and pictures come from the site itself, so no other company learns that you visited. It is hosted by Netlify, which keeps the standard records any web server keeps, such as IP addresses, the pages requested and the kind of browser. The buttons that start a purchase take you to Lemon Squeezy's website.

If you email us

Email sent to our support address is delivered through Namecheap and read in a Google Mail inbox. We use what you send only to answer you and to keep a record of what was agreed, and we delete it when you ask us to unless the law requires us to keep it.

If you join our Discord server

Support is also given on Discord. If you join, Discord handles your account and everything you post there under its own privacy policy: https://discord.com/privacy Other members can see what you post in public channels, so don't post your license key, your email address or anything else private there. We don't copy what you post on Discord anywhere else.

What we receive about you

From Lemon Squeezy, as the seller: your name, email address, country, what you bought, and the names of the computers your key is active on. We use this to provide the product, handle support and refunds, stop license keys being misused, and keep the records we are required to keep. We don't sell it, and we don't share it for advertising.

For people in the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area: we use this information because it is needed to provide what you bought (a contract), because the law requires some records to be kept (a legal obligation), and because we have a legitimate interest in answering support requests and preventing misuse of license keys.

How long we keep it, and where

Purchase records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require. Support emails are kept only as long as they are needed.

We are based in the United States, and the companies named in this policy may process information there and in other countries.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email support@pierhand.me and we will answer within 30 days. We won't treat you differently for asking.

We do not sell personal information and do not share it for advertising. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area and are unhappy with how we handled your information, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

You must be 18 or older to buy Pierhand. It is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information about them.
